Jigsaw Puzzle of Life

You know those itsy-bitsy pieces you try to put in place? Sometimes they just fall into place and sometimes you have to search really hard to find the fit.

I guess my life is starting to slowly show signs of the puzzle coming together. Most of you may have wondered where Nawooz has been. Well, I’ve got a different job. My life is about to be 1+1+1. I would love to post the scans of the little thing growing in my wife’s belly. The little heartbeat beeping on the screen. Unfortunately, I don’t have the scans nor the scanner with me. Go Nawooz!! Tech guy but can’t do the simplest tasks.

My wife has settled on the name Cyrus Ong if it’s a boy. Interesting name you say. Wifey chose it because I have a Persian name. Cyrus was a Persian King. Read more about Cyrus the Great at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_the_Great.

However, it was June who brought to my attention this odd pattern. My mom’s and my name both start with “N”. My dad and my sister’s name both start with “F”. Cyrus and Catherine both start with “C”. Hence, our daughter would most probably have “N” for her name. Cool huh. Thanks June for pointing this out.

New work environment has been pretty interesting. Sales is where you definitely wanna be at. The perks are nice! I’m also learning new stuff I’ve never been exposed in the IT industry. It’s a nice change for a new start. I wish there would be more trainings though. All in good time though.

Now comes the cool part. Our soon-to-be-born kid has brought us luck. With the small windfall, we sat down and calculated the budget. We finally can afford a safer and economical car. The deal was signed and sealed today and we’re expecting the ride to arrive somewhere next month. The old ride is gonna be wifey’s mode of transport when we shift into our soon-to-be completed condo. It’s taking so darn long as the finishing after our second inspection was terrible. We were told to get a full inspection and this was like a month ago. I guess they really got grilled for that. Not my problem though. We like our new home to be nice and all. Especially since I paid for it with blood, sweat and tears. The awesome news is that the investment has appreciated by28-30% in the span of 2 years. Not bad, not bad at all. Glad I invested in property than a car at an early stage.

Since the increase of fuel prices, raw materials have been on the climb as well. This has pushed up the building costs. Developers are rumoured to be fleeing as profits are dwindling. So, I’m kinda lucky to have this over with.

The pieces are still many, but you get the sense of satisfaction and drive when the pictures starts to materialize, doesn’t it.

To all who wished my wifey and I on our new addition to the family, my thanks and this question:

“When’s your turn ah??!!” Muahahahaah. Sorry, it’s just too tempting. Have a great week ahead!

Psychology in motion

I sometimes wonder if parents know how big a role they play in their kids up-bringing. We, kids, look up to them for guidance and assistance until we hit our teens. Then, we just go our own way and become who we are.

One of the interesting things I observed. From a small age, I was quite the hyper-active child. I’d get myself into a lot of problems and this would usually end with my name being shouted really loud. “Nawooooooooooz!!!!!!!” I usually stop being naughty or run for life upon hearing my name. Survival instincts need not be taught to kids. It’s natural ;-)

It’s ironic though! Communication skills training mention that people love hearing their own name. Hence, we are encouraged to use the other person’s name at least 3-5 times to reinforce this positive point. However, a parent shouting out your name usually brings fear and terror to a kids heart. What more of your name being shouted more than once!! More than once means somebody is gonna get a hurt real bad.

Even today, I dread it when my names is shouted by my parents. Though now, it’s mostly related to technology problems they face rather than my mischief. But it does NOT make me cringe any less! When I hear the shrill call of “Nawoooozzzzz!!!”. My mental state just shuts down. It’s like an in-built mechanism now. I sometimes wonder if my parents notice this. Rather than shout my name, calling for help in a normal tone usually works better for me. Something like “I can’t do so and so on this program, can you come take a look Nawooz?” It would definitely minimize my fight or flight instincts.

Honestly, I like computers and tech stuff to a certain degree and I like troubleshooting it as well. A sense of accomplishment and satisfation does work for me most times. You just have to keep my name shouting to a minimal.

So ladies and gentlemen, ask for help and not shout for help. This community service reminder is brought to you by Nawooz.

Signs of aging?

Driving home today, my mind sorta wandered (kids, don’t try this at home) and it got me thinking about my past. I would say I had a priviledged childhood. Dad used to be in Sales and the family got to travel a fair bit. I wasn’t the “popular” kid or anything, but I somehow fit in and have great friends at every point of my life.

Then I started to recall some of the stuff I did and somehow it made me feel…young? Gosh, I seriously feel old when typing this out. It’s the same thing when I meet up with my buddies. We tend to look back on the good ol’ days. Which explains why many of the old uncles tend to hangout at coffeeshops and spent hours sipping their coffee and shooting the breeze. Guess I’m not nearly there yet, but on the track.

This is happening before I’m 30. Wonder what it would be like at 40…Gotta start getting used to being called “Uncle” now.

>_<”

Flashbacks

OMG!!! People still remember this old foggy! So touched. I’m still here and still alive, unfortunately. Hehe. Year 2007 came and went in a blink of an eye. Let’s recap my year eh. I know this is waaaayyyy overdue, but it’s my blog…so, humour this old man okayyyyy ^__6

Year 2007 highlights:

1) Left my work place of 3+ years in hope of greener pastures. Still looking…

2) The [aSa] clan reunion in Port Dickson after many many months. Total attendees: 5 - Shum, Thiru, Sani, wifey and mua. Ended up driving to Malacca at 9pm after we arrived for the famous “Satay Chelup”.
Pictures: http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh295/cat3218/Genting%20Gathering%202007/PD%20Trip%202007/

3) Gate-crashed wifey’s reunion with her old friends in Gentings. Learnt to play Roulette from wife. Awesome.
Pictures: http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh295/cat3218/Genting%20Gathering%202007/

4) Went back to Thailand to visit my extended family. Covered the highlands of Chiang Rai this time. Do you know that the Chinese and Taiwanese actually conquered the hills of Chiang Rai. Throw a stone and you will hit 3 shops selling home-grown Chinese tea there. Pictures to come once my wifey is done uploading. Both of us had food poisoning the day before we flew back to KL. Not pretty on a 1 hour+ flight!!!! How I detest thee, Salmonella or mebbe it was E. Coli.

Year 2008 started with a BANG! My best buddy Chee Wei, whom I’ve known since Secondary 1, got hitched last night. Wishing him and his wife “white hair till old” and more Chee Wei juniors to come.

EDIT: What’s up with Friendster and Facebook. I keep adding people, but I still haven’t figured out why people are super-Poking or Turning me into a Vampire or Werewolf. Confused la!

Tide of Life

Where do I start? It’s so complicated, but my decision was quite simple. Thankfully I have people in my life to see me through.

I’ve left my job with a Multinational Corporation (MNC). Been applying for jobs here and there. I’m still leaning towards Singapore. Time will tell how the outcome is.

So how has life been for all of you out there? Good?

Tag, you’re it! Attack of wordsticky!

I remember sometime back, when I had to create another blog, as Blog.com wasn’t being very friendly with my lost password request. I started nawoo2.blogspot.com then. During my short blogging stint there, I started one of my nutty movements called  wordsticky. What’s wordsticky you ask? It’s actually the laziest form of typing. No capitals and minimal punctuation. The only thing allowed besides characters and numbers would be a fullstop. This is to help with the reading-deciphering bit. So here goes:

asusualifyoucanreadthisthenyouareprettywellonyourwaytopostingyourownwordstickyentryinyourblog. takethisasatagifyouwillandpostanentryonyourblogwiththewordstickyformat. onceyouaredonewiththepostdocomebackandleavemeacommentsothaticangobusybodyonyourblog. alsodidanyonerememberthatyesterdaywastheanniversaryfor911. therewasalsosomehuhaaboutosamapostinghisnewvideoonthatfatefuldaysevent. talkaboutrubbingsalteinthewound. hadenoughofwordstickytet. icouldgoonandonandonandonifyouwish. itsirritatingyetaddictiveattimes. tryitonyourmsnconversationonceinawhile. guaranteedtogetsomewadafaktmresponses. alriteythenthiswillbethelastlinenow. thanksforreadingall.

So how did you find it? Leave me a comment to let me know what you think ^__^ Also, comment if you managed to decipher the message *winks* It’s my first weirdo tag to all my blog readers. Thanks for your support in advance.

The Hill of Life

Once a while, Life throws you a curve ball. A little challenge or speed bump on your journey. Some other times, you get thrown a hill in your path to climb.

Being human, governed by Logic, most people stop at the foothill wondering if they should climb that hill or turn back and head the other way. There are some, who chose to pitch a tent at the foothill and wait for the hill to crumble in time. Those who chose to climb that hill, often wonder if their choice was right. Will the rewards stack up to the effort spent? What lies over yonder hills? Could it be a pot of gold or heartbreak waiting to greet them.

The strong-willed individual then comes upon a fork in their path up the hill. Left or right? Maybe turn back, due to a last minute change in mind and will power? Where does one find strength to continue the journey up? I believe people coined the term, “taking a leap of Faith”, to illustrate this.

Why the sudden ramble on hills and what not? Well, things at work have gone from mundane and predictable to certain uncertainty. Sense the irony in that? My fellow colleague once said something, which hits a note now, there’s no such thing as job security. I can’t tell you how much this person is right! THERE IS NOOOO SUCH THING AS JOB SECURITY! Even if you did everything right and put in all you’ve got. Life’s like that, I guess.

As I type this now, I’m donning on my hiking boots and gear to climb that pesky hill, which suddenly popped outta nowhere. I’m also prepared for that fork in my path upwards, but I sure wish I had a helicopter to save me all that trouble. Hehehe. C’mon, a little humour never killed anyone. Hmm..unless the dude has a weak heart. Anywho, remember my words and keep them close to you, it’s copyrighted by Nawooz by the way!

Cloudy Skies

I’ve been hit by melancholia lately. Not in the mood to blog. Just received depressing news about my job. Still waiting for the final decision from management and as you know, waiting sucks to the max!

I’ll be working 12 hour night shifts for 5 days this week. Recipe for physical and mental disaster. I’m still procrastinating on some tasks, which I know will come to bite me back in the ass.

Read a couple of blogs on my blog roll and surfed my usual forums. Found an interesting picture and it goes out to Dr. Looney Goonie. It captures everyhing perfectly, doesn’t it?!! This picture made my day. Sorry to all the non-CSI fans out there.

Note: Artist made a boo-boo with the drawing. The sunnies are already OFF!! How come he has a second pair on him? ROFFLES!!!!

This concludes my emo post. Take care guys and gals

Of Pillows and Stardust…

This is the second time I’m experiencing excruciating pain in my neck and shoulders. It’s a dull, throbbing pain near the right shoulder blades.

The cause this time has been identified. My bloody pillow. I know this for a fact as I changed my usual pillow last night. I prefer cotton stuffed pillow as it allows better support, moulding to my side-sleeping position. The lousy substitute was some synthethic pillow and boy did it suck. I’m tempted to burn the evil thing now. The pain is bearable this time as I’m well prepared.

I still had some leftover medicated Tiger Balm adhesive strips. This went on the right shoulder blades. I then smothered the neck and inner right blades with Ammeltz Yoko Yoko. The relief is minimal, but it’s better than walking around like Frankenstein.

I really wish I have someone, who knows how to massage the knots away in my shoulders. I remember the Indian barbers, who use to rub some alcohol after the cut and shave. They would then firmly hold your head with one hand and the chin with the other. Before you can say “ROFFLES”, he has swung your head left and right. A satisfying crack or two would be followed by a magical loseness in your neck and shoulder muscles.

A side note, I wonder what the toot happened to Stardust???!! The movie has been out since Aug 10, but I’ve yet to hear about it on our shores. Some people maybe wondering whats the big issue about Stardust. Well, it’s only written by one of the better authors, Neil Gaiman. I remember reading this book about 7 years ago along with his other superb works. For more information on the movie, head on to: http://www.stardustmovie.com. Neil even has a blog of his own, http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/. How cool is that?!

Anyone interested in joining me for this movie if it ever comes out in Malaysia? Otherwise, I’ll have to resort to my Lanun connections.
