Cough Remedies
All my life, I grew up knowing I have weak lungs. This was due to a bout of whooping cough (sp?) I had when I was younger. On top of that, I’m very sensitive to dust and chemicals. Walk into a dusty room and I’ll be sneezing my head off. Walk into clothes department and my nose will start itching and twitching.
I still remember a funny incident when I was about 11 years old. I was cleaning my room and boy was it dusty. Halfway through spring cleaning, I was called to have lunch and then continue. Whilst gobbling down my fish, I got a “Y” shaped fish-bone stuck in my throat. All the old wives remedies to dislodge the darn thing did not work. Ball of rice swallowed whole - check. Drinking lotsa water in one gulp - check. Clearing my throat until it was sore - check. In the end my mom called my dad, who was at work, to get back home.
So I figure I’d wait for dad to get back and he will have a go at it with some forceps. No biggie, except when I tried swallowing. Hurt like hell then. I focus on clearing my room. Got to cleaning some dusty cabinets and lo behold, I sneezed a major sneeze and found myself staring at a fishbone in my hands. Awesome! Dad wasn’t too thrilled about it when he got home though.
Ok, that was a big beating around the bush. I’ve been stuck with a bad bad cough. It’s the dry kind where you cough and cough, but nothing comes up. However, it leaves you with a headache and a bursting lung. I’ve tried 3 different cough mixtures and lozenges to soothe my sorethroat from all that coughing. I had a cup of warm water with honey last evening, but all have failed me miserably. So I turn to the Internet for cough remedies, my dear bloggers. Anyone? Pretty please with sugar icing on top?
hehehe..i curi this remedy off che-cheh’s blog - i’m sure she wont mind plus hedo also wont mind, i’m sure.
good luck trying it out….
“when you buy vitamin c, make sure you get the low-acid time-release variety so that your body can absorb it better. you’re on the right track with garlic pills but you might want to add horseradish pills to your supplement regime. horseradish is very good if you’re targetting sinus, as opposed to garlic pills which is good to combat flu, cold, and allergies. i also take fish oil tablets to boost my cardio and immune system due to lack of sleep and erm smoking.
drink ALOT of warm water (it really works! and it soothes your throat) get more rest and go easy on rich foods.”
Hey Yvy! Thanks for the tips. I did stop buy Guardian Pharmacy last night to get the good old Cod’s Liver Oil. I’ve been trying many other remedies, but this cough is one tough fella to kill. I’ll be trying Chinese medicine soon. The stalls that sell those “leong cha” with added medicinal powder. I remember it was awfully bitter, but works wonder.
My diet already has garlicky goodness in it thanks to mum’s cooking. Horse radish is something I haven’t tried. I’ll give it a shot after the Chinese remedy. Wish me luck.
this is kinda late,… but horshraddish works well if taken on a long run. meaning u got to take it long term to see the effects. works well on flu.
so how arr?? worked or not???
kiddo: Yvy also mentioned horseradish, but i haven’t got time to go raid guardian yet.
yvy: the cough is persistent as hell!!! i’ve been working 12 hour shifts with only one day break in between. haven’t been resting well and i guess it’s taking a toll on health. i’m now taking cod’s liver oil. the dose of antibiotics the doc gave was pretty useless. and i’ve stopped taking cough mixture as i was told it can be addictive. plus i’ve noticed my sleep patterns affected by consumption.
die lar like this.
Hey there, you can try ‘Ubat Batuk Cap Ibu dan Anak’ or more famously known as ‘Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa’. My cough is getting better because of this.
hehe..didn’t know yvy called for backup. i’m gonna try that when i go back home today. mom recommended it but i forgot about it.
pray it works.
i cant understand……
