wok talk - reloaded
shooting the breeze with my buddy today, he suddenly asked me an interesting question. do women especially adore men, who can cook, without having to bring out the entire state’s fire department? not one to be ambiguous, i think it’s best to narrow this down to dishes, involving raw goods rather than instant noodles, canned food and the such. what we would want, is a simple 3 course meal combined of a soup, meat dish and a vegetable dish. dessert is optional, but would be an added advantage.
so ladies, how does this sound? would you prefer mr. chef over mr. tough guy, who conviniently doesn’t cook?
i had no choice in life. parents were down to earth people and made sure both my sister and i could cook to save our lives. my best memory of cooking was my struggle with half-thawed fish. my mom nearly died laughing when she saw me with the wok cover like a shield, whilst i slid the fish into the hot oil. laugh all you want mom. at least i didn’t get hot oil flying all over my hands. let me tell you, water (ice crystals in this case) and hot oil are a big no-no. years later, i am now immune to sprays of hot oil. yay!
anyone wanna share stories of their cooking experience or lack thereof?
well, nawooz if you ask me. i would rather take mr chef. i dont know how true this is,but i think guys who can cook are ‘easier nuts’ to crack. and mr chef of course needs to be innovative in his cooking methods and style. heh heh…
easier nuts to crack. hmm hmmmmmmmmm…hahaaha…you wanna share what this means? don’t leave us hanging here lar. furthermore, i am interested in the usage of the word, "innovate". does it mean innovate in cooking methods and style only or generally everything else?
i worked as a cook(read kithcen slave) for two years if you recall.and i still cannot get laid.damn it ruz, we should skin sani and steal his face then skin mr parmjit and steal his hair.
erm…are you sure you got the right blog mate? haha. why lar you wanna skin sani’s face. you need the whole package man. join shum and i in our quest to market him to the bapoks in Lorong Tikus, Klang. make money and be merry.
‘easier nuts to crack’ means the actions, expressions feelings etc are easier to decipher. but then again, there are grey areas. not all mr chef guys are the softies type. the guy that i know can cook but sometimes don’t understand the signals he give out…. hmmm… contradiction…
no need to be confused angel. if the chef gives wrong signals, just take a wok to his head…sometimes the rolling pin helps too
anyone know of a good recipe for nice thick, creamy mushroom soup? i had the best so far in a deli, but i have yet to identify each of the ingredients used. tried it twice and it still doesn’t taste as well as the shop’s.
fry onions and use the campbell powder instead of the can version.thyme and parsley when boiling, and sliced mushrooms.
u can even add pandan if you feel like a malaysian twist
water to powder to butter proportion 70:25:5
hmm…Emm, that sounds good man. i think i shall try your recipe. i noticed that the shop used creamer to give it the extra smoothness. i’ll try it your way and another with a dash of creamer and see how it goes.
also, which do you think is better, maitake or shiitake mushies?
i’ll take a man who can cook ANY day.
at least i can rest a bit mah…..:P
Maitake all the way!!!!!
Unless you get hold of some french mushrooms or better still, truffle!
i wish i could afford truffles dude. they are like super expensive. sigh. any other recipe you wanna share? i think i will be free *touchwood* this weekend and i wanna cook up a storm. sick and tired of fried rice and fried beehoon. yucks.
It is nice to have a man who can cook….You know the lovely feeling of coming home from work (9-5) and you find a nice home cooked dinner awaiting you on the table & not some takeaway KFC or Mcdonalds crap in a scrunched up bag…….
I would love some of your recipes though! Nice to have other people’s perspectives on cooking!
hi suzie. let me start by saying, i soooo hear ya girl! i think it’s nice to have a significant other prepare a small meal for you. sure beats take-away stuff. fast food once in a while is ok, but a simple home-cooked rice, meat and veg meal can do wonders for the stomach and heart.
in regards to recipes, i hope you like Asian food as it has the 3 basic tastes of greatness. sweet, sour and spicy! oh la la!
i agree with you!
