wok talk
i’m going to take a lot of heat for this, but i’ve queried some of my buddies. would you like a woman, who can cook? the response leaned very much to a resounding, YES!!!! they didn’t mean maggi mee and eggs either. something more substantial. dishes would be good.
now, i grew up in a family, who strongly believed in equality between both sexes. from small, both my sister and i were made to do household chores on a rotation basis. cooking was no different. i’m proud to say that i can at least bear my own cooking and my sister does, get by as well. now, is it reasonable if i expect women to be able to cook without burning stuff or making the “kangkung” taste like salted veggie?
fast forward. i dropped some hint, that the ‘lady’ should try taking it up (cooking), rather than relying on her mom and 4 elder sister (figures), but nooooo. she kept giving weird excuses. oh well, hope her boyfriend or hubby enjoys instant noodles. she must also be skilled in preparing maggi mee in 101 different styles, like my friend’s cousin brother.
discuss, flame, comment…
no matter what career the woman is in i think she shud have the basic knowledge to cook up a few meals. its great to see ur lady making you food. and yes…. more than just maggi mee and fried egg. spaghetti and something like lasagna would do it for me tho. i could live everyday of my life eating that.
Maggi mee with teh tarik would be okay for me!! Hee hee! Maybe some women just don’t enjoy cooking at all. Like not alot of people can garden. It’s just a matter of not taking it against these people right? Cause there would probably be something they’re good at that were not.
i’m glad i learned h.economics in school. i learned baking, frying, steaming…etc… anything that can be done in the kitchen(minus slaughtering and burning the kitchen alive!) but all is rusty becoz ever since my mum moves to a new place, somehow, there wasn’t any opportunity to do those stuff anymore…
I think it’s a good idea for everyone to know how to cook. BTW, I love the blog. It’s very nice.
shan - it’s not the food right, it’s the love you’re eating there mate
Mhay!!!! - KAMUSTA KA? haha, somehow i can almost imagine you raiding the poor mamak’s stall void of any teh tarik when you’re back in Malaysia. do let me know when you plan on visiting us again.
blue angel - we guys are kinda lucky too. we had electronics and stuff, but my bunch of buddies and I joined a cooking competition organised by the gals a h. econs. we didn’t win anything…except the admiration from our gal peers for being the only guys there. still feel that we could have won. how was i suppose to know that the judge (lady teacher) liked it spicy woh?? haha.
