Chapter 24: onions

O-n-i-o-n-s! yes, that dratted veggie, which makes even grown men cry. so what is with today’s topic. well, it is another observation of people. i generalise too much but this is how i work. in small work units. what do people and onions have in common?

onions are made up of many, many succelent layers of gawd knows what but that’s beside the point. i admit i am no biologist. so let’s focus on the layers. i found that people are also made up of many, many layers. each layer, built on life’s experiences. to get to the core, these layers have to be ‘peeled’ or ’shed’. the process of peeling or shedding is a delicate one on both accounts of, onions and people. do it too fast and you will end up with a good dose of ‘eye-watering’ experiences. the best approach is to tread with caution. one layer at a time. yes, you may get ‘hurt’ in the process but you live to ‘peel’ another day. is this making any sense? sure hope so. you may find it more tolerable for both parties, the peeler and the peelee (does this word even exist? Ha-ha). the peeler won’t have to face the full brunt of retaliation from the peelee. where else the peelee wouldn’t be in shock and have to over-react to the act of being stripped of a protective layer. there is time to recuperate before the next ’session’.

it takes a lot more effort and time, of course, whoever said good things come by easily right. the question, at the end of it all is, was it worth it? in my case, you bet! you find some unpolished gems in people on rare occasions. sometimes, what you find are not gems but plastic imitations. hey, who ever said life was simple and fair right? remember the movie, ‘Forrest Gump’? “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”. frankly speaking, i like the dark, bitter-sweet ones.

so how many onions have you met and ‘peeled’ lately. ‘peel’ on people!

Disclaimer from author: i do not use the term ‘peel’ literally and that is why you, my good readers, will notice the word is enclosed in inverted commas. i do not encourage the violence of, someone going out and peeling another human being alright ;). the context of ‘peel’, in this case, is to get to know or understand an individual. proceed…

emo: dumb as a bum…ha-ha. cheers
